Pristine Winter Days

by Mary on January 22, 2011

The Kezar Lake House

The snow lay neat and crisp and even.

Winter light

We skied through the backyard, took the path to the lakeside field, carefully maneuvered our way through the bramble along the edge of the lake.

Kezar Lake

Made our way up the path and into the woods.

Through the woods

Cold, but still. No wind blew. The only sound was that of the skis gliding through the snow, and our breath. Pristine. Perfect day.

Kezar Lake Is Frozen

by Mary on January 17, 2011

A small group of ice fisherman on Kezar Lake, Maine.

Just back from a glorious winter weekend at Kezar Lake, where we (finally) found the lake frozen. We saw a few small groups of ice fisherman on the lake.

View of Speckled Mt. across a frozen Kezar Lake.

Summer Comes Early to Kezar Lake

June 11, 2010

It’s always a treat to watch a Kezar Lake sunset, but it’s an especially nice treat when it’s still early June yet feels like July. All spring we experienced everything a few weeks earlier than normal — ice out on the lake, leafing out of the trees, blooms on the lady slippers. It’s been quite [...]

I love how plein air artist Connie Snipes captures the lake light. Tempted to add this one to my collection of Kezar paintings.

What Makes Winter in New England Fun

February 22, 2010

So, here in New England this winter will not be known as a very snowy one. Still, we manage to make the most of what nature gives us.
And with an entire week of February school vacation to fill, we found plenty to do. (Forgive the photo quality, these were all snapped on-the-fly with my mobile.)
The [...]
