Westways

The private community of Westways was originally the site of the summer retreat of the Diamond Match Company, built by the company's president William Fairburn in the 1920's. Today, this exclusive enclave includes fewer than 25 private residences and shares a waterfront a quarter mile long, with four docks, a lakeside recreation field, softball field, and tennis court.

Several of the buildings from the original compound, including the main lodge, have been converted into private homes. Other of the buildings have been retained and maintained in their original state and are open to Westways owners and their guests.

Among these is the recreation hall, pictured here, which is a minute walk from our property and includes an old-fashioned two-lane bowling alley (you set up the pins manually!), pool table, ping pong table, card table, and fieldstone fireplace (original details include the lack of central heat in the rec hall).
